The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) today (Thursday, January 20, 2022), destroyed ₱5,362,909,417.00 worth of dangerous drugs at the Integrated Waste Management, Inc. (IWMI), Barangay Aguado, Trece Martires City, Cavite.
Based on the Consolidated Report of the PDEA Laboratory Service, the quantity of the destroyed pieces of drug evidence and their estimated value were:
a. 779,521.75 grams of Methamphetamine Hydrochloride or shabu worth Php 5,300,747,915.50;
b. 174,012.29 grams of Marijuana worth Php 20,881,475.00;
c. 3,150.25 grams of Cocaine worth Php 16,696,300.09;
d. 9,294.77 grams of MDMA or Ecstasy worth Php 15,801,111.21;
e. 1,318.90 grams of MDMA+Meth worth Php 1,811,520.00;
f. 74 grams of Cocaine+MDMA worth Php 650,090.00;
g. 2,390.54 grams of Amphetamine worth Php 5,737,296;
h. 10,405.03 grams of Diazepam worth Php 403,194.84;
i. 86 grams of Ephedrine worth Php 4,445.80;
j. 6,100.33 grams of Nitrazepam worth Php 129,631.95;
k. 30 grams of Toluene worth Php 3,166.80;
l. 14 grams of Zolpidem worth Php 43,269.80;
m. 62 grams of Meth+Acetone;
n. 1,878.81 grams of Clonazepam;
o. 40 grams of Methylephedrine;
p. 10 grams of GHB;
q. 1,013.13 grams of Sodium Hydroxide;
r. 68,900 grams of Surrendered Expired Medicines;
s. 0,755.00 milliliters of Acetic Anhydride; and
t. 1,876.90 milliliters of Liquid Marijuana.
The pieces of drug evidence were destroyed through thermal decomposition or thermolysis that involves breaking down chemical compounds with the use of tremendous heat. At 1,000 degrees centigrade, all dangerous drugs are totally decomposed or broken down.
PDEA Director General Wilkins M. Villanueva commended the efforts of the different branches of Regional Trial Courts (RTCs) for the expeditious prosecution and disposition of drug cases that led to the prompt destruction of these illegal drugs no longer needed as evidence in court.
The destruction of the dangerous drugs is in compliance with the guidelines set on the custody and disposition of seized dangerous drugs under Section 21, Article II of Republic Act 9165, or The Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, and Dangerous Drugs Board Regulation No. 1, Series of 2002.
PDEA key officials, local officials of Barangay Aguado, Trece Martires City, representatives from the Philippine National Police (PNP) and other law enforcement agencies, Department of Justice (DOJ), and Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), non-government organizations (NGOs) and media partners witnessed the destruction activity.
“Ang inyong PDEA ay patuloy at masigasig na gagampanan ang aming trabaho para makamtan natin ang isang Pilipinas na ligtas sa iligal na droga,” (Your PDEA will continue to diligently work to achieve a drug-free Philippines) Villanueva said, adding that the destruction was in response to the directive of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to immediately destroy all drug evidence as soon as all requirements for court proceedings are satisfied.
