PRESS RELEASE: #013/21

DATE: June 10, 2021

Operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) arrested a Chinese national during a search and seizure operation inside a condominium along Roxas Boulevard, Pasay City on June 9, 2021.

PDEA Director General Wilkins M Villanueva identified the suspect as Pan Wenyong, alias Jun, 35 years old, a businessman and native of Guangxi, China.

At about 7:30 in the evening, joint elements of PDEA-Special Enforcement Service (PDEA-SES) under Director Rogelito Daculla, and PDEA-Intelligence and Investigation Service (PDEA-IIS) under Director Edgar Jubay, implemented a search incidental to a lawful arrest of Wenyong inside his 12th floor condominium unit located in Roxas Boulevard, Pasay City.

Seized during the operation were one transparent plastic bag containing methamphetamine hydrochloride, popularly known as shabu, weighing more or less 200 grams worth ₱1,360,000.00, five pieces of suspected ecstasy tablet worth ₱8,500.00, various drug paraphernalia, repacking and sealing equipment, one firearm, two magazines with live ammunitions, and one mobile phone.

“Prior to the operation, we have received an information from BITAG, an investigative and public service television program, that a certain condominium unit serves a distribution and repacking hub for illegal drugs,” Villanueva said.

BITAG received a complaint from a concerned citizen professing that she works for Wenyong in repacking illegal drugs inside the latter’s condominium unit to peddle later in the streets. After validating the information, PDEA immediately coordinated with the management of the condominium to effectuate the suspect’s arrest.

“PDEA is thankful for the cooperation of the condominium management as part of their program to implement a safe and drug-free environment in the workplace,” Villanueva added.

PDEA implemented an advocacy program aimed to promote a drug-free workplace inside hotels, bars, restaurants, condominiums, subdivisions, and warehouses, to prevent these establishments from being used as fronts of illegal drug activities.

Wenyong will be charged for violation of Section 11 (Possession of Dangerous Drugs) and Section 12 (Possession of Drug paraphernalia), Article II of Republic Act 9165, or the “Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002”. Additional charge for violation of RA 10591 (Illegal Possession of Firearms and Ammunition) will also be filed against him.

Wenyong is presently under the custody of PDEA-SES.
