The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) signed Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the PH Global Jet Express Incorporated, or popularly known as J&T Express Philippines, to help address the smuggling, transportation, or transshipment of dangerous drugs and controlled precursors and essential chemicals, or CPECs in the country using the mail and parcel system.

In a simple ceremony held today (December 22, 2020) at the PDEA National Headquarters, the MOA was formally signed by PDEA Director General Wilkins M. Villanueva, and Ms. Susi Susanti, Human Resource and Administrative Director, and Atty. Christoffer Allan Liquigan, Corporate General Counsel, of J&T Express Philippines.

The signing of the agreement manifests a strong resolve for PDEA and J&T Express to formally strengthen their partnership in the fight against drug trafficking, and closer coordination and cooperation in the interception of illegal drugs.

This trend of drug trafficking using the services of delivery courier companies as unknowing conduits of the drug trade, has become prevalent over the years.

“PDEA cannot solve the country’s drug problem without the help of various stakeholders like J&T Express. Hence, our efforts and mechanisms to intercept delivery of illegal drugs would only be possible with their cooperation,” Villanueva said, adding that the agency is thankful for the participation of other courier service providers in ensuring packages containing illegal drugs are intercepted and kept from being delivered.
