An enlisted personnel of the Philippine Navy’s reserve force and his two cohorts were arrested by operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) during a checkpoint in Pangasinan on February 16, 2017.

PDEA Director General Isidro S. Lapeña identified the suspects as Seaman First Class (SN1) Frederick Saguinsin y Agabin, 32 years old; Kenneth Marave y Sierda, 31, a construction worker, both residents of Old Sta. Mesa, Sampaloc, Manila; and Kenneth’s ounger brother Aldrin, 30, a mechanic, of San Roque, San Rafael, Bulacan.

Saguinsin is a Philippine Navy (PN) Reservist based at NAVRESCOM, Intramuros, Manila.

At around 5:30 in the morning, agents of PDEA Regional Office 1 (PDEA RO1) under Director Jeoffrey Tacio, with the support of Sual Police Station intercepted Saguinsin’s group aboard a van carrying two transparent plastic sachets of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride, or shabu, weighing more or less two grams worth P27,000, various drug paraphernalia, two caliber 45 pistols, three pieces of magazine, 30 pieces of live ammunition, and two PN camouflage jackets with name tag ‘Saguinsin’.

Saguinsin and company will be charged for violation of Section 11 (Possession of Dangerous Drugs), Article II of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. Additional charges for violation of RA 10591 (Illegal Possession of Firearms and Ammunition) are also being readied for filing in court against them.
