Five anti-drug operations conducted by elements of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Regional Office 7 (PDEA-7) from February 7 to 8, 2017, in different areas in Central Visayas have resulted in the confiscation of P1.3 million worth of methamphetamine hydrochloride, or shabu.

The operations also resulted in the arrest of a police officer who went absent without official leave (AWOL), 10 drug personalities, and the rescue of a minor.

PDEA Director General Isidro S. Lapeña said that the seized illegal drug weighed approximately 450 grams.

On February 7, 2017, at around 7:40 in the evening, operatives of PDEA Regional Office 7 (PDEA RO7) under the direct supervision of Director Yogi Filemon L. Ruiz dismantled a drug den in Barangay Calamba, Cebu City, that led to the arrest of Edgar Rafols, 67 years old, an alleged drug den maintainer; Grace Escopete, 35; and Police Officer 1 (PO1) Julius Cuyos.

Seized during the operation were six packs of shabu, weighing more or less 50 grams, with an estimated street value of P130,000 and several drug paraphernalia.

At around 3:15 in the morning the following day, the same operating unit rescued a 14-year-old boy used as a drug courier during a buy-bust operation along A. Lopez Street, Barangay Calamba, Cebu City.

The subject of the operation, a certain alias Jeje, who was with the minor during the transaction, was able to elude arrest. He remains at large.

Seized from the boy were two packs of shabu, weighing approximately 100 grams worth P300,000. 

Later on the same day, a suspected drug den was also dismantled in Poblacion II, Tagbilaran, Bohol. Arrested during the operation were Michael Aquila, 26, the suspected drug den owner; Jovanni Seloterio, 40; Ariel Abanto, 42; and Policarpio Jagunos, 50.

Seven packs of suspected shabu, weighing around 2.6 grams worth P6,000 and various drug paraphernalia were seized as a result of the operation.

In Cebu City, agents of PDEA RO7 conducted another buy-bust operation which resulted in the arrest of Jochep Comendero, 22, and Ana Grace Villarin, 20, along Tres de Abril St., Barangay Labangon; and Reynante Gonzales, 35, and Kirk Perocilo, 33, in A. Lopez Street, Labangon.

Seized from Comendero and Villarin were two packs of shabu weighing more or less 250 grams worth P750,000, while Gonzales and Perocilo were nabbed for selling one pack of shabu weighing 50 grams worth P150,000.

Appropriate cases for violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs of 2002, will be filed in court against the arrested suspects.

The minor will be turned over to the Department of Social and Welfare and Development (DSWD) provincial office.
