Fully-grown marijuana plants, with an estimated street value of P6,330,000, were destroyed by combined elements of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), the Philippine National Police (PNP), the Philippine Army (PA) during a marijuana eradication on January 27, 2017.
The team, composed of operatives from PDEA Regional Office 7 (PDEA RO7) under Director Yogi Filemon Ruiz, Provincial Public Safety Company (PPSC)/ Provincial Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operation Task Group (PAIDSOTG)-Cebu Provincial Police Office, 31DRC, 31D, PA and 6SAB-Special Action Force 7 swept two marijuana cultivation sites that led to the destruction of 21,100 stalks of fully-grown marijuana plants, with an estimated street value of P6.33 million, in Barangay Magtagobtob, Danao City, Cebu.
PDEA Director General Isidro S. Lapeña said that two suspected cultivators identified as Nelito Tapia Octores, alias Leng-Leng, 30 years old; and Francisco Durano Hermita, alias Undo, 48, both residents of Sitio Ibabaw, Barangay Magtagobtob, Danao City, Cebu, were arrested during the operation.
Seized from the suspects were two large pouches of dried marijuana leaves, weighing more or less 118 grams worth P1,100, one caliber 357 revolver and five pieces of live ammunition.
Octores and Hermita will face charges for violation of Section 11 (Possession of Dangerous Drugs) and Section 6 (Cultivation of Dangerous Drugs), Article II, of Republic Act 9165, or The Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
