Five million pesos worth of methamphetamine hydrochloride, locally known as shabu, was intercepted at the Mactan Cebu International Airport during an airport interdiction operation on July 20, 2016. Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Director General Isidro S. Lapeña said that the illegal drug, contained in 11 brown postal envelopes, weighing 4,052.1 grams, was discovered in the trolley bag of Li Ming Zhou, 27 years old, a female Chinese national and a native of Guanzhou, China, that led to her arrest. She is an arriving passenger from Hongkong. At around 11:10 in the morning, joint elements of PDEA Regional Office 7 (PDEA RO7) K9 Unit under Director Ronald Allan DG Ricardo, Bureau of Customs Cebu and the Philippine National Police (PNP)- Aviation Security Group, discovered the illegal drug concealed inside the walls of Zhou’s bag. Zhou will be facing charges for violation of Section 4 (Importation of Dangerous Drugs) and Section 5 (Transportation of Dangerous Drugs), Article II of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
