CITES ACCOMPLISHMENTS DURING 12TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) has vowed to make its presence felt by the Filipino people through an intensified fight against illegal drugs and raise the level of anti-drug operations a notch higher. PDEA Director General Undersecretary Arturo G. Cacdac, Jr. stressed this during the PDEA 12th Anniversary Celebration on July 30, 2014, Wednesday, at the PDEA National Headquarters in Quezon City
“The PDEA, with its 1,619 strong operatives, administrative and technical personnel, will continue to perform its mandate with equal fervor and intensity to keep our communities safe from the evil clutches of dangerous drugs,” Cacdac said, taking cue from the anniversary theme, “Pinag-Ibayong Laban Kontra Droga”.
Cacdac said that the ongoing struggle against the drug problem would be far more difficult, “but PDEA has learned to dwell from its past so as not to commit the same mistakes, to embrace the present for the sake of adapting to the challenging times, and to stay inspired in the prospect of a brighter and drug-free future.”
The Director General led the Agency’s key officials, personnel and distinguished guests during the anniversary program with Honorable Ma. Josefina Belmonte, the incumbent Vice Mayor of Quezon City, as guest of honor and speaker.
Among the highlights of the program was the granting of P5,863,150.90 monetary rewards to 10 civilian informants under PDEA Operation: “Private Eye”. These concerned citizens provided vital information that aided PDEA and other drug law enforcement agencies in the conduct of high-impact anti-drug operations against high-value drug personalities.
As a matter of tradition, PDEA held its annual awards to honor its men and women who have demonstrated exceptional service over and above the call of duty. PDEA likewise recognized the invaluable support of individuals and organizations which have contributed to the success of the national campaign against illegal drugs.
The anniversary program also featured an audio-visual presentation which showcased the PDEA Director General’s Report to the public, summarizing the highlights of the fiscal year in review and emphasizing the significant accomplishments posted by the Agency from July 2013 to June 2014.
“For the past twelve years, PDEA has found itself locked in an uphill battle with the drug menace but managed to stand tall in the face of insurmountable odds. PDEA is more than ready to lead an intensified fight against illegal drugs believing in the vision that the continuing war on drugs is winnable when people are genuinely committed to regard the war as their own,” Cacdac pointed out.
