A barangay chairman was arrested by joint operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) during an implementation of a search warrant in Ilocos Norte on March 13, 2017.
PDEA Director General Isidro S. Lapeña identified the suspect as Mark Lester Doronio y Agno, 34 years old, an incumbent barangay chairman and resident of Sitio Cabuluan, Barangay 21, San Marcos, Sarrat, Ilocos Norte.
At around 12:30 pm, combined elements of PDEA Regional Office 1 (PDEA RO1) under Director Jeoffrey Tacio, Provincial Public Safety Company (PPSC) SWAT, Provincial Intelligence Branch (PIB) Ilocos Norte Police Provincial Office (PPO), Highway Patrol Group (HPG) Ilocos Norte and Sarrat Municipal Police Station conducted a lawful search which resulted in the arrest of Doronio in his house in Barangay 21.
Confiscated during the operation were six plastic sachets containing suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride, or shabu, weighing approximately 0.072 gram worth P432 and one piece of live ammunition for caliber 25.
Doronio will be charged for violation of Section 11 (Possession of Dangerous Drugs), Article II of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. An additional charge for violation of RA 10591 (Illegal Possession of Firearms and Ammunition) is also being readied for filing in court against him.
In Zambonga City last week, agents of PDEA Regional Office 9 (PDEA RO9) under Director Lyndon Aspacio, in collaboration with local authorities, arrested Ababil Jamil Hasan, 33, a barangay treasurer of Sangbay Small, Hadji Muhtamad, Basilan, following an anti-drug operation in Purok 7, Barangay Recodo, Zamboanga City.
Confiscated from him were several drug paraphernalia, one caliber 45 Colt MKIV Series 80 pistol with 10 rounds of live ammunition and two magazines of caliber 45.
Hasan will be facing charges for violation of Section 12 (Possession of Drug Paraphernalia) of RA 9165 and RA 10591.
